Ano Asites: A Picturesque Village with an Outdoor Art Gallery
ABOUT
Nestled in a picturesque natural setting with a rich history and tradition, Ano Asites shines as a true jewel of nature.
In recent times, there has been a concerted effort to transform the village into an open-air art gallery.
The village is home to the small Byzantine church of Agios Antonios, situated within the gorge of the same name. Additionally, there is a cave with water, extending to a depth of 100 metres, inhabited by bats, commonly referred to as the ‘Nichteridospilios’ which translates to ‘Bat Cave’. The surrounding area also features other notable caves, including the Kinigospilios in Kokkinos Detis, the ‘Farangi’ (Gorge) within the Agios Antonios Gorge, the Agios Charalambos Cave in Vathias, and the Siderospilia in the homonymous location. An enduring oak tree is found in Kouvdi, as well as clusters of trees in the Agios Antonios Gorge and the Agios Charalambos Gorge extension.
