Explor.gr: Hiking the Richtis Gorge

The Richtis Gorge is situated between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia on the northern side of the Lassithi region. The trail cutting through it begins northeast from the village of Exo Mouliana and leads all the way to the Richtis Beach. Notably, the gorge maintains a steady flow of water throughout the year, making it a delightful destination to explore regardless of the season.

The journey commences from the car park alongside the main road, following a cement road that leads to the picturesque stone arched bridge of Lachanas. Beyond the bridge, the road comes to an end, and a captivating path unfolds, accompanying the river and meandering through a lush and verdant landscape. 

As you make your way towards the highlight of the excursion, you'll encounter old watermills dotting the path. The true gem of the journey awaits—the magnificent 20-metre-high Richtis waterfall. Cascading gracefully, it forms a serene pond at its base, lending its name to the entire gorge. This breath-taking sight is a true marvel to behold, adding to the allure of the entire experience.
