The Ancient Olive Tree of Kato Asites: Host to the 1st Olive Festival

It is believed to be at least 2,500 years old!

An ancient olive tree has been discovered in the village of Kato Asites, within the Municipality of Heraklion.

The tree belongs to Zacharias Lestakis.

The documentation was carried out in 2021 by Manolis Charkoutsis.

Based on an autopsy conducted by scientists, the age of the olive tree is estimated to be at least 2,500 years!

On 26th November 2022, in celebration of World Olive Day, the 1st Olive Festival was held at the site of the ancient olive tree of Asites.
