Agnopites are round pies filled with xinomizithra cheese.

In Crete, during the week of Tyrini (week leading up to Clean Monday), housewives would customarily prepare pies: agnopites, mizithropites, pitarakia, sarikopites, sfakianes pites, and water pies, all filled with cheese.

Especially on the Sunday preceding Clean Monday, the last day for consuming rich foods before Lent, pies held a special place on the Cretan table.
