On Sunday, December 1, 2024, the Municipality of Sitia and the Sitia Development Organization successfully wrapped up a two-day celebration dedicated to olives and olive oil.
Under the theme "Sitia, City of Olive Oil", and marking World Olive and Olive Oil Day, the event highlighted the cultural, scientific, and sensory significance of this treasured product.
A key highlight was the inauguration of the Sitia Municipality Ecomuseum—a space dedicated to showcasing, promoting, and preserving the exceptional Sitia extra virgin olive oil. The museum will serve as a cornerstone in protecting the legacy of this world-renowned product.

One of the main goals of the event was the establishment of an annual olive oil tasting day, fostering continuous study, documentation, and appreciation of its superior quality.
The two-day festivities included olive oil tastings featuring, for the first time, an extensive selection of the Koroneiki variety from various countries worldwide. Guests also enjoyed dishes where olives and olive oil took center stage, demonstrating the exceptional versatility of Sitia’s extra virgin olive oil in culinary creations.
