Mochos square is a vibrant place, often hosting local festivals and celebrations. It’s also known for its excellent food, especially the dishes served in its traditional tavernas. If you’re wondering where that irresistible wood-fired oven smell is coming from, we have your answer: at Taverna Lithos, you’ll enjoy not only meats but also slow-cooked dishes with a unique wood-smoked aroma!

We recommend trying the succulent pork neck, tender oven-baked lamb, or slow-cooked goat in a clay pot that practically melts on your plate. You can also sample traditional Smyrna-style meatballs, giant beans, and stuffed vegetables—all cooked in the wood-fired oven! Pair your meal with fried zucchini, vine leaves stuffed with blossoms, and, of course, a classic village salad. This is authentic Cretan dining at its best!

Taverna Lithos has been serving guests since 1996, under the guidance of Mr. Nikos Fountakis.

A meal at Lithos pairs perfectly with a visit to the Lassithi Plateau, the Panagia Kera church, Aposelemis Dam, and don’t forget to light a candle at the main church of Mochos.
