First Stop: Monastery of Panagia Theogennitor

As you make your way up the winding road, don’t forget to soak in the panoramic views of the coastal areas of Hersonissos. The monastery is a women’s convent, so it’s best to check the visiting hours before you go.

The uphill drive continues with a few more twists and turns before you arrive in Mochos, a village renowned for its rich musical tradition. Despite being part of the popular tourist region of Hersonissos, Mochos has managed to maintain its authentic character.

Learn about the area’s history and traditions at the Mochos Folklore Museum.

Keep in mind that during the winter months, the museum isn’t always open, so make sure to check its schedule ahead of time.

Time for Lunch!

A great choice for food is Lithos taverna, located in the beautiful square of Mochos. It’s famous for its wood-fired oven dishes – don’t miss out on those!

An Afternoon Visit to Aposelemis Dam

In the afternoon, take a short trip to the Aposelemis Dam. If you visit during the summer, you might find it almost empty, which will reveal the submerged village of Sfentili, Crete’s own "Atlantis," now hidden beneath the dam's waters!
