Aposelemis Gorge
ABOUT
The Aposelemis Gorge is traversed by the Aposelemi River and begins from the area of the Holy Spirit at Xerokamares, along the provincial road connecting Hersonissos and Kastelli. It stretches for a distance of 4 km, running from south to north, and reaches the vicinity of the settlement of Agriana in Analipsi.
The initial section of the gorge resembles a narrow valley where the river flows. As you progress, the gorge's slopes become increasingly awe-inspiring, showcasing distinct geological formations that rise along its sides and capture the attention of visitors. In certain areas, these formations are nearly vertical, reaching impressive heights of 150-200 metres.
At the elevated point of Agriana, the gorge transforms into a picturesque valley adorned with olive groves, eventually culminating at the estuary of the Aposelemi River, where a stunning sandy beach awaits. In this vicinity, an essential wetland can be found, serving as a refuge for numerous migratory birds throughout the year.
