Pnevmatikakis Winery: Wine Museum and Wine Tasting
ABOUT
The upper floor of Pnevmatikakis Winery houses the Wine Museum, boasting panoramic vistas of the Gulf of Kissamos. Within this museum, you can explore a range of displays dedicated to viticulture, winemaking, raki production (tsikoudia), and the daily routines of past generations on the island of Crete.
The museum is adorned with frescoes that depict scenes related to all aspects of viticulture and winemaking, as they have been practised on the island from ancient times to the present day.
In the museum, you'll encounter various agricultural activities such as pruning, hoeing, tending to the vines, grape harvesting, and the use of the traditional wine press. Additionally, you can explore the traditional wine cellar, where oak barrels are filled with a distinctive wine stored in bags. These bags, made from goatskin, served as the sole mode of wine transportation in the past.
