Agia Sophia Cave
ABOUT
The cave layout is roughly circular, measuring approximately 50 metres in diameter. The height of the cave varies, reaching up to 20 metres in certain areas. The entrance of the cave has a 25-metre opening, and towards the left end, one will discover the 6 by 3-metre chapel of Agia Sophia. The cave holds archaeological and historical significance, making it of interest to researchers and history enthusiasts.
To reach the cave, visitors can take an uphill path starting from the provincial road that leads to its grand and imposing entrance. The entrance itself is arched and measures 25 metres wide and 10 metres high. Once inside, the cave unfolds into a vast chamber measuring 70 metres by 70 metres. Majestic stalagmites divide the chamber into distinct sections, creating a captivating sight. The ceiling height within the chamber ranges from 10 to 20 metres.
