ABOUT
The trail is well-marked, guiding you through a journey up to the highest peak at 811 meters above sea level. The hike begins right next to the archaeological site of Anemospilia, leading southwards. Before you reach the first peak, the path winds through another archaeological area where the foundations of ancient buildings stand out on a small plateau created by the mountain. From there, the trail takes you past the Minoan Peak Sanctuary of Youchtas, located at the mountain’s first summit.
A paved path then leads to the second peak, home to the historic chapel of Afentis Christos. After reaching the summit and the chapel, the trail descends eastward, offering stunning views of the eastern plains of Heraklion and the Dikti mountain range. The hike concludes at the western edge of the village of Pano Archanes.
