Exploring Creta: Hiking the Aradena Gorge
ABOUT
The hike starts from the abandoned village of Aradena, where from the very first moment you are faced with the breathtaking landscape of the gorge.
One of the most characteristic features of the route is the steel bridge, built in 1986, which connects the two sides of the gorge at a height of 138 meters above the ground.
As you continue your descent through the gorge, you pass by the ruins of the village, among which stands out a cruciform church, one of the few preserved buildings from the once vibrant mountain settlement.
The path becomes increasingly rugged, turning the route into a demanding alpine hike, but the imposing landscape and the sense of isolation more than reward your effort.
The final part of the Aradena Gorge leads you to a panoramic descent that ends at Marmara Beach, where the turquoise waters of the Libyan Sea offer the perfect reward for completing the hike.
