Tavri Refuge
ABOUT
The Tavri Refuge is situated on the Tavri Plateau at an altitude of 1,200 meters. According to the UNESCO Sites in Crete page, you can reach the refuge via a 7.5 km dirt road from Askifou or by hiking along an impressive forested trail that takes about two hours from the village to the refuge.
Founded in 1992, the refuge can accommodate up to 45 people. Every year, camps are held here for both children and adults. The hiking routes from the refuge lead to the summit of Kastro (2,219 meters) and the gorges of Sfakiano and Kavi. The European E4 trail also ends at Tavri, coming from the Katsiveli Refuge.
For visits or reservations, it is recommended to contact the Chania Mountaineering Club (Tel. +30 28210 44647, Fax: +30 28210 54903 | email: info@eoshanion.gr).
