Bougatsa Iordanis: Traditional bougatsa with cream cheese from Chania
ABOUT
"Bougatsa Iordanis" is a family business that has been operating for 100 years in the center of Chania. The great-grandfather of the current owner arrived from Asia Minor in 1924 and purchased the bougatsa shop in the old town from a Muslim Cretan.
At Iordanis, you can savor traditional Chania-style bougatsa with cream cheese, as well as the local favorite, bougatsa with Chania’s mizithra cheese, which is what most visitors come for.
The Chania mizithra adds a unique flavor to this delicious delicacy that you simply must try. You can sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar on top to elevate the taste even more!
The crispy handmade phyllo dough is crafted with skill and patience, honed over a century of expertise. It is tossed in the air until it becomes a thin, transparent sheet.
The best time to try it is when you arrive in Chania by boat—fresh out of the oven, hot, crispy, and bursting with creamy flavor!
The tip of Local!
Try it early in the morning when it's hot and crispy!
