Spiliotissa or Rechtra Gorge
ABOUT
In the northern region of Rodia, you can discover the enchanting Spiliotissa Gorge, also known as the Rechtra Gorge.
Stretching for nearly 1500 metres, the Spiliotissa or Rechtra Gorge culminates to the west of Paleokastro.
The name ‘Spiliotissa’ originates from the presence of the cavernous church of Panagia Spiliotissa, situated at the lowest point of the gorge. Moreover, the name ‘Rechtra’ is derived from a majestic waterfall within the gorge, measuring approximately 10 metres in height.
As you traverse through the gorge, you will come across the captivating sight of the old watermill of Koukos. However, what truly leaves you in awe is the cave nestled in the heart of the gorge.
