Selakano forest
ABOUT
Ideal for relaxation and interaction with nature
The forest of Selakanos is situated 35 kilometres northwest of Ierapetra, south of the Afentis Christos summit of Mount Diktis. It is one of the most important and beautiful ecosystems of Crete, added to the Natura 2000 project; it is also a very important pine forest for the entire Mediterranean.
Today it constitutes the largest bee-producing area in Crete, while in the past it also specialised in resin collection and logging.
At only a short distance from the forest, the visitor can marvel at the gurgling waters and plane trees around the small church of Agia Paraskevi.
