Limnakaro Plateau

ABOUT

Nestled at an altitude of 1,120 meters on the northern slopes of Mount Dikti, Limnakaro Plateau is a peaceful haven. Known for its abundant fruit trees, the plateau is especially famous for its walnuts, which are renowned for never being hollow—a rare quality that sets them apart.

Today, Limnakaro serves primarily as pastureland, with 5 or 6 shepherds still residing there, tending to their flocks. Despite its remote nature, three roads provide access to the plateau, though they are of varying quality and not all ideal for regular vehicles.

One route begins at Agios Georgios and, passing through Vasiliko, Poros, and Pouliou to Nero, reaches Liminakaro from the Skafidia area. This scenic route is about 6 kilometers long.

The second road, considered the best option, starts from Avrakonte. It winds through Koutsoura, Adilos, and Fasoselos, passing near the Peristera Cave before arriving at the western side of the plateau.

Finally, the third road branches off from the 4th OA route (Katofygi – Kaminaki). Starting from Kaminaki, at around the 3-kilometer mark, a dirt road veers off to the left, leading through Sklavomyti and reaching Agio Pneuma after 3.4 kilometers.
