Krasi: A Haven for Writers

At the foothills of Mt Selena, a traditional mountain village steals the heart of anyone who visits it. It offers a panoramic view of the northern coastline of the Municipality of Hersonissos, while a short distance away, we encounter a forest mainly composed of cedar trees and rare kermes oak trees.

As soon as you set foot in the village, you come across three majestic plane trees and the Springs (‘Vrysses’). Of course, the standout is the age-old plane tree, estimated to be 2400 years old, located next to the Great Spring (Megali Vrissi). This spring comprises two sources that provide clear water throughout the year.

It is also worth noting that Nikos Kazantzakis, along with his friends, spent several summers in Krasi during the years 1910-1920. It was also the birthplace of his wife, Galatea Alexiou.
