Historical Folklore Museum of Rethymno
ABOUT
The Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno is located within a Venetian mansion in the Old Town.
The Venetian building housing the Foundation, a historical listed monument dating back to the 17th century, provides an ideal venue for showcasing its collections. Additionally, the operation of the museum contributes to the preservation of this monument.
The museum's exhibition spaces span across five halls, primarily showcasing objects of traditional handicrafts and folk art.
The museum's halls showcase collections of textiles, embroidery, lace, ceramics, baskets, as well as exhibits related to traditional professions such as coppersmiths, and farriers. The ground floor hosts temporary exhibitions and educational programmes. In the rear and central courtyard, visitors can explore the preserved orchard with bitter orange trees, along with the well and cistern featuring a stone tub.
