Folk Artists’ Exhibition “Giorgos Kapsalis” in Gergeri
ABOUT
Nestled in a specially designed museum space within the old summer campgrounds, the permanent Folk Artists’ Exhibition of Gergeri “Giorgos Kapsalis” showcases a collection of rare and striking works crafted from stone and wood. These unique pieces, shaped with skill and passion, have been generously donated by 12 local artists.
Among the contributors are Giorgos Kapsalis, the visionary behind the initiative, along with Grigoris Sifakis, Michalis Sifakis, Sifis Sifakis, Konstantinos Psaroulakis, Giorgos Koutentakis, Nikos Kapsalis, Giorgos Krousaniotakis, Manolis Prinianakis, Nikos Sifakis, Andreas Koutentakis, and the family of the late Lefteris Raptakis.
This exhibition stands as a tribute to the artisans of Gergeri—artists who, with talent, dedication, and deep respect for nature, have carved and sculpted their way into the region’s folk tradition. Their creations, inspired by the rugged beauty of the Cretan land, embody the spirit, soul, and distinctive character of Gergeri. Through their hands, stone and wood are transformed into living heritage, passing down a tradition that continues to inspire new generations.
