Monumental Olive Tree in Panasos

In the area of Agia Paraskevi in Panassos, you’ll find a natural monument that exudes timeless beauty and history—the Monumental Olive Tree, recognized by the Association of Cretan Olive Oil Municipalities (SEDIK).
This majestic tree has been designated “Monumental” due to the striking relief of its trunk and its impressive size. The olive tree belongs to the Church and is classified as monastic, being of the "Hondrolia" variety grafted onto a wild olive rootstock.
It is estimated to be over 3,000 years old!
Its trunk is a masterpiece of natural sculpture. A distinctive semicircular protrusion gives it a unique character, making it a sight to behold.
The dimensions of this ancient tree are extraordinary:
- At a height of 0.8 meters above the ground, the trunk has a maximum diameter of 4.20 meters and a circumference of 10.60 meters.
- At the base, the tree measures a maximum diameter of 4.50 meters and a circumference of 12.10 meters.
