Nymphon Waterfall in Panassos
ABOUT
In the quaint village of Panassos, in the Municipality of Gortyna, lies a secret waiting to be discovered. The Nymphon Waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder brought to light through the efforts of a local, Nikos Foukakis, who has also captured its beauty in stunning photographs.
The Nymphon Waterfall is a seasonal treasure. During rainy winters, it flows abundantly, and even in the summer months, it often continues to trickle gently. Its charm lies not just in its water but also in the myths and legends surrounding the area.
Reaching the waterfall is an adventure in itself. A 4x4 vehicle is essential, but if you prefer a hike, it’s a 45-minute walk from the center of Panassos. The path leads you to the Lenika region, a magical, almost otherworldly spot on the southwestern slopes of the ancient city of Assos.
The tip of Local!
The area around the waterfall is steeped in folklore. Ancient legends speak of Naiads—water nymphs—dwelling here in antiquity, while modern tales keep alive the belief in fairies inhabiting this hidden paradise.
