ABOUT
In the heart of Asimi, a charming town in Heraklion's hinterland, nestled in a narrow alley filled with tantalizing aromas, you'll find the taverna Biopetrino. This hidden gem invites you to dine on a terrace in a lovely, cool garden, where you can enjoy your meal beside an artificial waterfall.
The owner, Mr. Manolis Fountoulakis, shares with Discovercrete that Biopetrino places a strong emphasis on the quality of its ingredients. The taverna uses certified organic products, pork from a local farm, apaki (smoked pork) and sausages from a local artisan using his own recipes, and dairy from nearby producers. Even the pasta is sourced from a renowned local brand. Each ingredient, from olive oil to wine and raki, has a story and identity! The greens and vegetables are always seasonal.
At Biopetrino, you can savor traditional Cretan dishes like wood-fired homemade bread, omelets with syglina (cured pork), and skioufikta pasta with anthotyro cheese. These recipes are deeply rooted in Cretan tradition, offering a taste of the island’s culinary heritage.
This taverna is a popular stop for those returning from rock climbing in Kapetaniana or exploring the Eligia Gorge. It also pairs perfectly with a swim at the nearby beaches of Tris Ekklisies, Tsoutsouros, or Agios Ioannis.
The tip of Local!
Due to its popularity, especially on weekends, reservations are recommended to secure a table!
