Archaeological site of Petras, Sitia
ABOUT
On the small hill known today as Petras stood the ancient city of Itis or Itida, homeland of Myson, a philosopher who is often counted among the seven sages of antiquity.
Constant archaeological research in this area reveals new evidence, indicating a large and long-term settlement based on the extent of the ruins
The most important monuments and architectural ensembles of the archaeological site of Petras are:
-The city occupied the entire hill and featured a central building.
- Two fully excavated houses have been dated to the Neopalatial period (1600-1450 BC).
