Amourgelles Dam: A Magnet for Ecotourists
ABOUT
Amourgelles Dam is one of the largest in the area of Arkalochori, covering an area of 150 acres.
Situated at an altitude of 300 metres, 30 kilometres south of the city of Heraklion and 1 kilometre south of the village of Amourgelles, the dam collects the waters of the Amourgella torrent, along with those of three seasonal streams. This leads to overflow during winter, while the water level decreases in the summer.
The dam contributes to the enhancement of the natural beauty of the area, serving as an important wetland and a magnet for ecotourists.
