Midri Gorge
ABOUT
Situated in the eastern region of Messara, the gorge originates from the vicinity of the settlement of Philippi. Spanning a distance of 6 km, it meanders its way and ultimately terminates at the port of Tsoutsouras.
At the beginning, hikers traverse an open path that does not have any narrow passages and offers convenient access from a road leading to the settlement.
The optimal season for hiking is during the summer months. This is because the gorge follows the course of the Midri stream, and in the summertime, the river tends to run dry, making the passage easier and more accessible.
Half way through the gorge, hikers will encounter a refreshing water spring known as the famous ‘perdikoneri’ or ‘perdikonero’. This cool spring generously provides its refreshing water to quench the thirst of hikers along the way.
At the conclusion of the gorge, the remains of the ancient city of Inatos come into view, showcasing notable attractions such as the Roman Baths and a Roman Path.
