Arkalochori Cave
ABOUT
The Arkalochori Cave is situated approximately 500 metres southwest of the town, specifically at the site of Profitis Elias.
It is an important prehistoric, cave of worship, part of which is believed to have collapsed around 1500 BC.
Two theories have been proposed regarding the cause of the collapse. One suggests that it could be attributed to the earthquake that occurred after the eruption of the Thera Volcano. The other theory proposes that natural rock erosion could have played a role in the cave's collapse.
Exploring the interior of the cave is impossible because it is very narrow.
