Agios Charalambos Gorge
ABOUT
The gorge derived its name from the chapel of Agios Charalambos, which is encountered at its entrance within a vast hollow.
Situated south of the village of Ano Asites, the gorge is located approximately 24 km away from Heraklion.
The gorge is a picturesque and relatively small one, with a stream flowing through it, carrying water from the valley to the east of Prinias.
Starting from June, when the water stops flowing, visitors have the opportunity to stroll along the stream and appreciate the enchanting scenery of the gorge, which includes small lakes and impressive caves.
Lastly, the gorge serves as the starting point of the E4 European Path, which traverses the villages of Kerasia and Venerato before culminating at Profitis Elias.
