Omega Divers: Exploring a Wreck!
ABOUT
Omega Divers presents an exclusive diving programme exploring the remnants of the Minnewaska Ship.
The Minnewaska, constructed in Belfast in November 1908, was initially a passenger steamship measuring 183 metres in length. During World War I, the British army repurposed the vessel for troop transportation. Tragically, on 29th November 1916, while departing Souda Bay, the ship struck a mine that had been laid by the German submarine UC23.
Despite efforts, one section of the ship was too deep to be salvaged. This particular section, measuring 50 metres in length and 10 metres in width, remains submerged and can be explored by divers at depths ranging from 12 to 20 metres, offering a unique glimpse into the maritime history of the Minnewaska.
