Cretan adventures: River Trekking in Sarakina Gorge

Your day of adventure and rejuvenation begins at the southern entrance of Sarakina. From there, you'll navigate past a small dam to reach the gorge's narrowest sections with steep, towering walls that rise up to 150 metres. Within Sarakina, you'll be able to engage in some climbing in certain spots (these are easy climbs with no technical aspects). Depending on the water level, you might need to walk along the riverbed or even swim in the petite lakes or beneath one of its enchanting waterfalls.

As the Kriopotamos River straightens out and the vegetation becomes more prominent, you'll pause for a brief rest beneath the shade of plane trees and pine trees. On the return journey, you'll retrace your steps along the same path to experience the canyon from a fresh perspective.
