Two special stargazing nights dedicated to the spectacular planetary parade currently gracing the night sky are being organized by the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), with the support of the Municipality of Heraklion. The events will take place on Saturday, March 8, and Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 19:00 and 21:00, at Dasaki tou Promachona Iisou on the Venetian Walls, weather permitting.
During these evenings, visitors will have free access to observe this rare celestial lineup through portable telescopes. The highlights include the dazzling Jupiter, Venus as the Evening Star, the always-impressive Moon, and Mars in its close approach to Earth—an event that occurs approximately every two years.
The event is supported by the Association of Friends of Astronomy of Crete (SFAK), the Astronomy Student Group of the University of Crete, and the following schools:
🔭 "Pagkritio" School
🔭 Model High School of Heraklion
🔭 European School of Heraklion
These institutions will contribute with their own telescopes for the public observation.
The event welcomes all ages and offers a great opportunity for attendees to get a closer look at astronomical objects in our near-space environment, from planets and the Moon to distant stars.
A must-attend experience for sky lovers! ✨🔭
