The Archaeological Museum of Rethymno

The Archaeological Museum of Rethymno is positioned in the heart of the historical centre of Rethymno and is accommodated within the Venetian church of St Francis. The exhibits on display provide a comprehensive overview of the cultural history of the prefecture, spanning from the Neolithic era to the period of Roman rule.

The Temporary Exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno features and showcases noteworthy antiquities gathered over time from various locations within the Region of Rethymno. This exhibition emphasises the region's fascinating archaeological heritage.

The excavations conducted from the early years of the previous century up to the present have unveiled the progression of Rethymno's history from prehistoric, protohistoric, to historical periods. These excavations not only unearth the history of the region but also leave an indelible mark on generations of archaeologists from around the world.
