Rimondi Fountain
ABOUT
The ancient fountain in Rethymno, known as the Rimondi Fountain, holds Venetian origins.
Built in 1626, the fountain served as a crucial part of the city's water supply in Platanos Square.
It comprises three basins and three spouts shaped like lion's heads, dispensing water.
In the times of Turkish rule, they needed to be sheltered, hence a dome was built above them.
The fountain area hosts small concerts and dance-theatre events.
