It's Worth a Stop at Kefali
ABOUT
Kefali is a small village situated in the municipality of Kissamos, to the southwest of the Chania region, standing proudly at an altitude of 471 metres.
With several smaller settlements nearby, the few residents engage primarily in olive cultivation and animal husbandry, mainly for domestic purposes. The village was initially named Kato Aerinos and later became known as Koukounara (meaning ‘pine’), inspired by a sizable pine tree that once graced the village centre.
Kefali is conveniently located on the route to Elafonisi, Kedrodasos, and Chrysoskalitissa, making it an ideal spot for a pause. Visitors can relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, and even opt for an overnight stay. In recent years, the village has evolved to offer not only tavernas with delectable cuisine but also modern, stone-built accommodation options with breath-taking views.
