Agioi Theodoroi: The Lesser-Known Islands of Crete
ABOUT
‘Agioi Theodoroi’ is the name of the two islands situated across from Platanias and Agia Marina in Chania.
These islands constitute a protected area and remain uninhabited, yet they hold significant historical and ecological importance.
The larger island is named Thodorou, while the smaller one is called Thodoropoula. Both are among the relatively inaccessible small islands of Greece. In 1574, the Venetians constructed a substantial fortress on Thodorou to safeguard the entire Platanias area from potential enemy invasions.
A distinctive characteristic of the islet is the expansive arched cave in its southern part, described by locals as resembling a monster with its mouth wide open.
Agioi Theodoroi is half a nautical mile from the port of Agia Marina.
