On Sunday, December 15, 2024, the Mountaineering Club of Heraklion invites you to join a unique hiking excursion in the southern region of Rethymno.
The route begins in the picturesque village of Sachtouria, perched at 520 meters above sea level. From there, hikers will follow a mix of dirt roads and trails, ascending to the peak of Vouvála at 946 meters. The summit rewards adventurers with breathtaking panoramic views of the White Mountains, Mount Psiloritis, and the southern coastline.
The trail then continues eastward along the ridge. At a junction, participants can choose between two paths: one follows a dirt road directly to the village of Melampes, while the other takes a detour to the charming chapel of Analipsi. From the chapel, you’ll marvel at the sweeping vistas of the Libyan Sea and the Paximadia islets. The excursion concludes in the village of Melampes, located at 550 meters above sea level.
