This river flows through the Kourtaliotis Gorge in southern Rethymno, eventually meeting the sea at Preveli Lake, where you’ll discover one of Crete’s most unique landscapes: a palm forest!

Trekking along the river requires good physical condition as the rocks can be slippery, making it a challenging yet rewarding adventure. For those with less experience or moderate fitness levels, the trek to the mid-point of the river is recommended, where a charming bridge and a small refreshment stand offer a spot to rest and enjoy the surroundings.
