Dalampelos: Musical instrument workshop in Aggeliana
ABOUT
Traditional musical instruments are an integral part of Cretan tradition and culture. In the archaeological excavations of Knossos and Phaistos, there are depictions in sculpture, ceramics, and paintings of musicians and dancers that resonate with the present day, where the lyra takes center stage and dancers move in a circular formation around it. The lyra has always played a prominent role, as evidenced by its appearances in frescoes and seals.
Crete has a distinctive musical tradition that, unlike the folk traditions of other regions of Greece, continues to evolve. Improvisation is one of the hallmarks of Cretan artists, as they do not limit themselves to standard repetition but instead enrich their performance.
The presentation of traditional musical instruments at the "Delabelos Estate" in Aggeliana, Rethymno, takes place every Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The workshop is conducted in both Greek and English, accommodates 4 to 12 participants, and costs 65 euros, which includes a complimentary treat.
