Arodamos: Anogeian flavors with a view of mount Psiloritis
ABOUT
The traditional tavern “Arodamos” in Anogeia offers not only breathtaking views of Mount Psiloritis but also a uniquely authentic dining experience. The warm, minimalist setting adorned with traditional decor, coupled with friendly service, ensures an inviting atmosphere for every guest.
Inside, a spacious hall with large windows frames the stunning view, providing a cozy retreat in the winter months. On pleasant days, guests are welcomed outdoors, with tables and umbrellas set up to enjoy the open air.
The house specialties are classic Anogeian dishes that showcase the best of Cretan cuisine: ofto (roasted meat), handmade pasta with fresh anthotyro cheese, traditional pies like sarikopites, myzithropites, and kalitsounia. Recipes have been carefully preserved over the years, using only pure, local ingredients.
Be sure to try the roasted lamb and skioufihta pasta with apaki. At the end of your meal, the staff treats you to a house-made liqueur with dessert—choose between orange pie or crunchy patsavouropita served with ice cream.
Arodamos frequently hosts live music evenings featuring local musicians and the enchanting lyra, celebrating Anogeia’s deep musical heritage.
The tip of Local!
While in Anogeia, a visit to the Ideon Cave is a must. The scenic route also offers a glimpse of the shepherds' stone-built huts, or mitata, scattered across the Nida Plateau.
