ABOUT

The village of Nerokouros is located 5 kilometres away from Chania.

This village is situated at an elevation of 90 metres above sea level, nestled at the base of Mt Malaxa within the Aliganos mountain range. It offers panoramic vistas, stretching from Kolymbari to Souda, encompassing the entire plain.

In 1976, the remains of a building were uncovered at Agios Georgios Metochi during a bulldozer clearing operation on a plot belonging to the Institute of Subtropical Plants and Olive Trees of Chania. Subsequent research identified it as a Minoan villa dating from the Middle Minoan period.

The villa is exceptionally well-preserved and features paved floors, a multi-door entrance, and even a first floor. Additionally, within the vicinity, pottery and bronze artefacts have been discovered.

From this point, a picturesque uphill trail commences, following a dirt road. Throughout the journey, you'll be treated to scenic views of the city of Chania.

In fact, within the church of Agia Marina, there is a spring with fresh water. The following stop is at the church of Agia Eleousa. After passing the church, the path descends, leading us back to Nerokouros.

Altogether, the entire trip takes about 2 hours to complete.
