ABOUT
Situated in the northern part of the Lassithi prefecture, this gorge is one of the most prominent in Crete, renowned for its exceptional natural beauty.
This is the Richtis Gorge, which commences after the village of Exo Mouliana and terminates at the Cretan Sea. The entire route spans approximately 5 kilometres, with an elevation change of 320 metres between the starting and ending points.
The gorge boasts lush vegetation, an array of tree species, and a diverse low-lying plant life, forming a distinct world filled with a multitude of scents and aromas. The river typically maintains a constant flow throughout the year, making your journey through the gorge a truly exceptional experience.
Exploring the Richtis Gorge and its waterfall can be approached in three distinct ways. The most popular method is to drive to Exo Mouliana, where you can park your car alongside the main road. From there, you'll embark on a path that takes approximately 3 hours to traverse.
An alternative option is to drive up to the Lachanas Bridge, and from there, it's about a 1.5-hour walk to reach the waterfall. After about 30 minutes of walking, you'll arrive at the gorge's exit, adjacent to the beach.
A crucial reminder: Avoid traversing canyons during the rainy season, and make sure to wear appropriate mountaineering boots for your safety.
