Meet in Plaka!

Just 25 minutes from the town of Agios Nikolaos, nestled along the coastal road, you'll find the charming village of Plaka.

It's the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee while gazing across the sea to Spinalonga. Ask the locals—they might share some stories about the island's dark past!

Your Journey Begins!

From Plaka, Spinalonga is only a 20-minute boat ride away. Boats depart from the harbor in the morning, and you’ll have about two hours to explore the island.

Make sure to bring some snacks and wear comfortable shoes so you can properly explore this place, steeped in history.

Arriving in Spinalonga!

As soon as you step onto the small island, you’ll feel a chill. This is where many people took their last breath. Spinalonga was where lepers were isolated in an attempt to contain the disease.

Walking through its streets, you'll get a glimpse of what life must have been like for those who were forced to live here, cut off from the rest of the world.

After Spinalonga: Next Stop, Elounda

After your time on Spinalonga, head to Elounda, just a 10-minute drive from Plaka. Elounda boasts stunning beaches, an archaeological site, and plenty of luxury!

It’s a great place to relax and enjoy a meal, a drink, or even an overnight stay.

For a meal by the sea, head to Moon Spinners Restaurant. Their seafood is excellent, and don’t miss out on the salmon-filled ravioli. Save room for dessert—their sweets are sure to delight!
