ABOUT
In the Municipality of Phaistos, you can discover a renowned forest of extraordinary beauty known as the Rouvas Forest.
It is a refuge for endemic plants and rare animal species.
The Rouvas Forest is not only one of the most significant kermes oak forests in the country but also the sole extensive and thriving oak forest in Crete.
Every year, the forest attracts hundreds of nature enthusiasts and scientists who visit to study its unique ecosystem.
You can reach the forest by taking the rural road from Gergeri or the Nida Plateau. Alternatively, you can follow the E4 European Path, which traverses the stunning Agios Nikolaos Gorge, providing another access point to the forest.
