Mylotopi Nikithianou (Nikithianos Mill Zone)
ABOUT
Windmills are an iconic symbol of Lassithi.
On the northern slope of Nikithianos, one discovers Mylotopi, a collection of stone windmills, with some well-preserved in very good condition.
The visitor has the opportunity to explore two types of Cretan windmills: Xetrocharis, characterised by a completely circular structure that adjusts its direction according to the wind, and axetrocharis, featuring an oblong shape with a rounded side facing the mill.
Some of the mills were demolished to make way for the construction of the motorway, which now intersects the mill zone.
