Meronas: Overlooking Mt Psiloritis

ABOUT

This amphitheatrically built village boasts Venetian features and offers breath-taking views of Mt Psiloritis.

At the heart of Meronas stands the impressive Church of Panagia, a structure that dates back to the late 14th century. Adorned with the coat of arms of the Kallergis family, the church is replete with frescoes.

Meronas comes alive with traditional Carnival customs every Clean Monday, and weather permitting, the village square hosts grand feasts. Notably, August sees the village transformed into a hub of musical exploration with the presence of a music school dedicated to teaching traditional Cretan instruments.

Guesthouses and tavernas offering traditional cuisine dot the village, providing a warm welcome to visitors.

The fascinating Meronas Caves, with a total of 20 explored, include the remarkable Mygiospilios situated in the area of Mygiolakkos.
