Lake Voulismeni in Agios Nikolaos

Lake Voulismeni is situated in the centre of Agios Nikolaos and has a diameter of 137 metres and a depth of 64 metres.

The lake is linked to the city's harbour by a canal constructed in 1870.

The park, situated just above the lake, provides panoramic views of it. According to legend, goddess Athena and goddess Artemis bathed in its waters.

Theories suggest that the German army dropped their equipment into the lake after their retreat during World War II.

Another urban legend claims that the lake has no bottom, but this assertion has not been scientifically verified.

Around the lake, there are cafés and restaurants. The square hosts numerous events, including music nights, dance theatre events, art workshops, bazaars, speeches, and more.

Indeed, scenes from films such as ‘Christ Recrucified’ and ‘The Fairy and the Lad’ have been shot in this square.
