ABOUT
Kroustas is a charming village in the municipality of Agios Nikolaos that will win you over with its gastronomic delights. A prime example is the restaurant Xatheri Cretan Authentic Cuisine, which has been welcoming guests since 2020. Located in the village square, it offers the perfect spot for outdoor dining under the shade of mulberry trees during summer, while in winter, you can cozy up by the fireplace.
The menu features traditional Cretan dishes such as lamb tsigariasto (slow-cooked in olive oil), skioufihta pasta with anthotyro cheese, stewed goat with thick pasta, lamb chops, and feta wrapped in phyllo with honey. The team at Xatheri takes pride in crafting handmade pasta and bread, and their mouthwatering cheese and herb pies are also made from scratch.
Owner Konstantinos Markakis emphasizes that whenever possible, they source ingredients locally, including olive oil, raki, and honey, all from nearby producers.
After your meal, take a leisurely stroll through Kroustas’ pine forest. The village is a gateway to destinations like Prina, Kalamafka, and Kalo Chorio in Ierapetra.
The tip of Local!
Kroustas is also a popular stop for visitors on safari adventures to the Katharo Plateau.
