ABOUT
Built on Mount Kadistos, northeast of present-day Neapoli, Ancient Dreros is regarded as a significant ancient city of Crete. It was founded in the 12th century BC and flourished from the Geometric/Archaic to the Hellenistic era.
The archaeological site revealed two citadels and an Archaic marketplace situated between them. Additionally, it unearthed the oldest temple of the Geometric era, the Delphinium, which was devoted to the deity Apollo. Sadly, the city met its downfall due to a civil war that initiated in 220 BC.
