Seahorse- - Hippocampus guttulatus

The most… unfishlike fish!

This is certainly the most unfishlike fish imaginable, but this is a fish without any doubt: it lives in water, breathes through gills and has a swim bladder.

The most famous aspect of seahorse biology is the male’s pregnancy, a unique phenomenon in the animal kingdom.

Seahorse spend all its life in meadows formed by marine plants, such as Posidonia. It remains completely undetected amongst the leaf clusters, which enable it to survey the surroundings for enemies while locating its prey at the same time.

Seahorse feeds by sucking up small planktonic prey with its long mouth.
