Each year, on St George's Day, typically celebrated on 23rd April unless coinciding with Easter, local farmers gather their flocks at the quaint Church of Agios Georgios in the town square. The scene is truly remarkable, with thousands of sheep adorned with bells, guided one by one to the chapel. There, they patiently await the priest's blessing. Following the blessing, farmers carefully milk the sheep, sharing the fresh milk with both residents and visitors alike.
For these farmers, the celebration of St George the Trophy-bearer is deeply intertwined with the sanctification of their sheep and goats, symbolising the start of a fruitful period. It is believed that failing to lead their flocks for blessing may bring hardship in the year ahead.
